Project Title:
Research Project “Multi-sensor-multi-platform LiDAR systems integrated with a camera and artificial intelligence for sustainable forest management and urban tree inventories”
Description and Objectives of the Project:
This project addresses the focus area of feature extraction and data analysis in the area of geospatial data processing and natural resource management. Specifically, the project aims to fulfill the growing need for machine learning (ML)/Deep learning (DL) algorithms and methods for processing the LiDAR and image data in the broad area of natural resource management for forestry and urban tree inventories, which include tree detection, tree phenotyping and above-ground biomass estimation. This is an emerging and active area of research that is of interest to various government and nongovernment agencies involved in natural resource management.

Essential Qualifications:
- M.E. / M. Tech. in Geoinformatics/Geomatics/GIS and Remote Sensing/Computer Science Engineering, or equivalent with first class in graduate and post-graduate degrees. GATE/NET qualification is preferred.
- The applicant must be a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of LiDAR point cloud data processing using deep learning/Machine learning
Fellowship:
Rs. 25,000/- per month (Consolidated) for the first two years [as Junior Research Assistant (JRA)] and Rs. 28,000/- per month (Consolidated) for the last third year [as Senior Research Assistant (SRA)]
Other Benefits:
Candidates selected for the JRA may register for the Ph.D. program of the Institute if he/she meets the eligibility criteria of the Institute for Ph.D. admission. The candidate may refer to the MNNIT website for detailed eligibility criteria. Facility of yearly leave carryover leave, medical benefits, etc. may be available as per applicable rules of the project staff. The candidate selected as JRA will get an opportunity to work with the Co-Principal Investigator from the project collaborator: IIT Kanpur.
Age Limit:
28 years as of the date - 01/04/2023.
Tenure of Appointment:
Appointment will be made on a contract basis for a period of one year initially, which may be extended depending on the performance evaluation on a yearly basis till the end of the project. The tenure of the project is three years which starts from the date of joining of a Junior Research Assistant (JRA).
