IIT Bhubaneswar Workshop "Computational Fracture Mechanics"

IIT Bhubaneswar Workshop "Computational Fracture Mechanics"

Overview:

  • A Short term course under the QIP Scheme of AICTE is being organized by the School of Mechanical Sciences Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar on the topic Computational Fracture Mechanics.
  • The aim of this short course is to present the state of-the-art and the most recent developments in computational and experimental methods for the analysis and simulation of fracture at multiple scales, such that the design of materials can be optimized.

Objective:

  • Development of elemental and global stiffness matrices in XFEM, solution techniques, error, and stability analysis.
  • Recent computational techniques to simulate and implement aspects will be discussed.
  • The course ends with an introduction to sub-scale (micro and nano) modeling aspects of fracture and recent multiscale methods to simulate fracture.

Date of Workshop:

  • 24 May 2021 - 4 June 2021

Contents:

  • Introduction to design of engineering materials
  • Analysis of stress and strain
  • Stress-strain relations for linearly elastic solids
  • Failure criterion and preventions
  • Bending of straight beams, Thin-wall beams
  • Thick and thin-wall cylinders
  • Torsion, Analysis of plates, Stress concentration
  • Closed-form solutions, their limitations, and some case studies, and many more...

Who can participate?
